If you had the penalty shoot out before you'd see even more dismal finals as more teams parked the bus if they knew a draw was enough.

As said previously the only problem is extra time. Bin it
With penalties its a mental thing. You need to think that by drawing you have blown it and lost and that the shoot out is giving you a second chance to take a trophy you dont deserve.
What I'd like to see is all 11 names for each team in a hat and the ref pulls out who the penalty taker is each time.
Maybe with the keepers kept as number 11.

Penalty shoot-out before the game? That then decides the winner if the game itself is drawn.

How about no outright winner? The spoils are shared and both teams only qualify for what a loser in the final would get.

The clubs get to display a hologram of the trophy in their cabinet.

I don't understand why people disapprove of penalty shoot-outs.

If a player kicking the ball into the goal and a goalkeeper trying to prevent them isn't a test of footballing skill, I don't know what is.

They already had 90 or 120 mins to win the game by 'fairer' methods, so fuck 'em. What's a big match about if it isn't about pressure?

penalty shoot outs are great to watch when your team is not involved

I’ve hated penalty shootouts since 13 May 2006

Extra time is a waste and needs to be binned completely.
If you cant win in 90 mins you deserve nothing.
The lottery/excitement of pens is all you deserve .... who knows you might get lucky.
The pens last night were exciting though both keepers were pretty ineffectual.
DeGea had a chance with a couple but looked unlikely ... the Villarreal keeper SHOULD have saved at least 2 more and looked incapable of stopping anything until DeGea dribbled one to him.

In Extra Time

In extra time remove a player from each side every 5 minutes and no offside when it gets to 6 a side. Play next goal wins

Re: Europa Final πŸ†
They need to find a different way as penalties are just crap.

Keep playing until someone scores?
Other stuff, number of shots, corners, possession, fouls
Judges!?
VAR decision based on some algorithm!

Anything would be better penalties

Slightly off the beat but it's Man United related and not worth starting a new thread for. Checked out their two documentaries this week, one called United narrated by Cantona and one about Matt Busby. Wondered how many survivors of Munich were still around and stumbled across an article. Apparently the United players that survived, but were too injured to continue playing were promptly kicked out of their club accommodation and one of the wives was pregnant at the time, and never helped those players in any way. Years later they had a Charity Match for Munich but had to pay Cantona Β£90,000 to appear! The Club obviously keep quiet about all the negative stuff. Mind you I guess we can't talk how we treated some of our ex players!

Yeah fuck me it's a bit harsh blaming a keeper that has not saved ONE penalty in 34 attempts and when given his go in the shoot out tamely side foots rather than put his laces through it like 99% of keepers would do.... I blame Rashford

On that red cafe Manc forum, they're blaming Ole for picking De Gea in the first place

"To blame De Gea for the loss is preposterous"

It isn't really though, is it? He missed the penalty that lost them the cup.

I agree that they should have won it before pens though.

Agreed Rossal… and that is why I would have him by the throat if I played next to him… McTominay has a tenth of the talent of Pogba…. But 10 times the heart and desire… imagine Keane having to put up with him… be nothing left of the surrender monkey… French… pah… fucking Agincourt merchants

Rossal 12:34 Thu May 27
Re: Europa Final πŸ†
And Pogba on his day is easily one of the best CM's in the world. Bloke has everything, and is technically sublime

Its just that day doesnt come often enough....the ability is clearly there

I'm not being funny but a blind paraplegic will at least save one penalty out of 30 odd... I mean he has to surely??
